Teacher Suspended for going Against 'No-Zero' Policy (CHED)

Edmonton physics teacher Lynden Dorval joins Roy Green to discuss his indefinite suspension for handing out zeros to students who don’t hand in assignments and/or miss exams. His employers at the school board believe zeros are what…ummm…damaging to self-esteem maybe? That’s the destructive policy far too many boards across North America still pursue. No student repeats a school year even if the student has no concept of what was taught.  Ottawa teacher Caroline Orchard made news three years ago when she began a petition drive to end policies like “no zeros”. Michael Zwaagstra, Manitoba high school teacher and co-author of What’s Wrong With Our Schools and How We Can Fix them joins the discussion. (~17 min)
