![]() Unsustainitoba: A Closer Look at the Province's Books (Winnipeg)Guest Speaker: Colin Craig, Prairie Director (MB and SK) of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation In 1999, the NDP came to power in Manitoba, inheriting one of the most stable economies in Canada. The provincial budget was balanced and revenues were expected to soar over the coming decade; leaving plenty of room for debt repayment, tax relief and more money for essential government services. However, since coming to office, the provincial NDP government has, more often than not, decided to spend new revenues rather than make difficult choices to control costs and return tax dollars to taxpayers. In his speech to the Frontier Centre for Public Policy, Canadian Taxpayers Federation Prairie Director Colin Craig will examine the unsustainable path our provincial government has chosen to pursue. About the Guest: Colin Craig was born and raised in Winnipeg, and graduated from the University of Manitoba with degree in economics. While pursuing his studies, he worked for the Provincial Government as an assistant to the Minister of Education and as a researcher.
