Memo to Vancouver about Alberta Oil

To: Vancouver city Mayor and Council

It has come to our attention that your City’s mayor does not want Alberta oil shipped into your city.  Accordingly, we have acted on your wishes and reduced the flow that is destined for your local refinery.  I trust this action addresses your concerns.

We also believe this action works fully in support of the Province’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and improve air quality in the region.  By reducing amount of refining of oil products in the Lower Mainland, we hope to contribute towards the process of improving air quality throughout the region.

Have a nice summer with your stay at home vacations.

Looks to me like the last line in the Vancouver Sun story should have been closer to the top.

Agreed, the entire context of the article should have started with the last sentence in it. If Vancouver City Council does not want oil moving through their city, they should also welcome a reduction of oil flow destined for their city.

Their alternative of course is to import oil products via tankers from Washington State.

As far as the North Coast communities, I wonder how they receive all of their petroleum products? Would that also happen to be tankers that ply the inside passage. If no oil tankers are acceptable in that region, I wonder how they will get fuel delivered to island and coastal communities?
